James Donovan’s 2004 new release begins with his observation of the similarities he has experienced with couples seeking therapy:  they introduce their recurrent fight as their immediate source of pain, they associate their fight to themes from their family of origin, and they express concern regarding the character flaws that these problems reflect in each other.  Herein lies the premise of Short-Term Object Relations Couples Therapy:  the unfinished business from the past has crept into the present and must be directly targeted in order to be resolved.  Donovan, then, takes the reader through this process in a cogent, insightful trip punctuated with excellent clinical examples.  This text book has received rave reviews, and the staff at The Joshua Tree agrees that it is a stand-out marital therapy text.
