Stephanie Donaldson-Pressman / Robert M. Pressman
Termed "narcissistic families" by the authors, this innovative therapeutic model addresses the ways which children suffer as a result of a family of origin in which the emotional needs of the parents superceded those of the children. Although both “overtly” and “covertly” narcissistic families are described, the strength of this text lies in the description of the patient “stuck” in his or her life. This is the person who comes to therapy having read all the books, talked to all the friends and relatives, and sought previous counselors who could not identify why personal growth has been so impeded. Full of rich clinical examples and useful therapeutic techniques, this text is highly recommended by our staff for its excellent balance of insight into and intervention with this difficult-to-treat client base.
